Non-Tenure Track, Lecturer Industrial Design

Position
The School of Design in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applicants to apply for a non-tenure track Lecturer position to teach in the Industrial Design program. We are seeking candidates that are well-rounded designers and educators with significant professional experience. Candidates should be qualified to teach throughout the Industrial Design curriculum. Primary responsibilities will be teaching professional practice, design history, and studio based courses.

Responsibilities include teaching up to four classes each term.

The position begins August 15, 2013.

We are seeking individuals who are committed to contributing to RIT’s core values, honor code,
and statement of diversity.

Required Qualifications
• MFA in Industrial Design or a terminal degree in a related field of study (completed by June 2013), or
BFA/BA in Industrial Design and a minimum of ten years professional experience.
• Minimum of five years professional experience.
• Teaching experience at the university level beyond a teaching assistantship.
• Professional, conceptual, historical and practical understanding of the profession.
• Knowledge of professional practices, design history, design principles and methodology.
• Experience in Adobe CS applications.
• Experience in 3D modeling software.
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity,
pluralism, and individual differences.

Position
The School of Design in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences at the Rochester Institute of
Technology seeks designers engaged in active creative practice with a commitment to cross-disciplinary, collective dialogue about undergraduate education. Desired candidates will have an active practice that demonstrates an innovative approach to critical thinking and production. The candidate must understand 3D Design as a hands-on, materials and processes curriculum with the goal of fostering an informed understanding of 3D form and space through problem solving, experimentation and critical analysis.

We are seeking candidates that are well-rounded designers and educators with significant professional experience. Candidates should be qualified to teach throughout the undergraduate and graduate Industrial Design curriculums. Primary responsibilities will be teaching studio based courses and design theory.

Responsibilities include teaching three classes each term. Additional components include service to
the University and an ongoing commitment to scholarship.

The position begins August 15, 2013.

We are seeking individuals who are committed to contributing to RIT’s core values, honor code, and statement of diversity.

Required Qualifications
• Terminal degree in Industrial Design (MFA, MID, PhD), or a terminal degree in a related field of study (completed by June 2013).
• Minimum of three years professional experience.
• Minimum of five years full-time teaching experience at the university level for Associate Professor rank.
• Minimum of one year teaching experience at the university level beyond a teaching assistantship for Assistant Professor rank.
• Demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the following: design theory, design history, design methodology, business.
• Experience with visualization and communication design skills common in design practice
• Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
