The International Design Opportunity 2012: Ageing in the City, hosted final presentations earlier this summer at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design. Four RIT students (Rob Fish, Alex Bennett, Maritza Garcia, and Aaron Jackendoff) and RIT Professors Stan Rickel and Kim Sherman participated in this years IDO 2012, and currently have their final presentations posted on PolyU’s youtube channel.
The students were asked to research and address vital issues of aging in the city from a broad designer’s perspective. The main focus was on shopping and transportation for the aging population. Four cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary teams were built from six members of each participating institution to handle the project. Students were asked to prepare research reports, conduct ethnographic and market research, develop design strategy and propose concepts for a brand / product / systems culminating in a 3 minute multimedia presentation.
