Design Strategies for Improving a Product’s Lifetime

Join Dawn Danby, senior sustainable design program manager at Autodesk and an industrial designer, as she discusses the incredible opportunity designers and engineers have to diminish the e-waste problem. RIT’s very own Domenico Colaprete will co-present and talk about the work he did at the Sustainable Product Design course last fall.
They will:
-Demonstrate ways to improve a product’s lifetime through design and get the most out of the materials and energy that products use throughout their lifecycle.
-Talk through the basic design strategies to optimize the life of a product, such as designing for durability, repair and upgrade.
-Show examples of products and student projects that applied these strategies in their designs.
You will leave with a better understanding of the role you can play in reversing the e-waste cycle.
